Court service

"They did a lot to put my mind at ease."

Crown CourtWe want to reach prisoners’ families as soon as possible when someone goes to prison.

Teams of volunteers work in most of the London Crown Courts and some London Magistrates’ Courts, making contact with the families and friends of those sentenced to custody.

Our volunteers are on hand with useful information such as:

  • which prison the defendant is likely to have gone to
  • how to get in touch with the prison
  • how to book a visit
  • where to get further advice and information.

Occasionally, we can arrange for a volunteer to go with a family member to court and support them on the first day of a trial or on the sentencing day.
