More Creative Project

Working on the artworkIn the autumn of 2009 Prisoners’ Families and Friends Service took part in More Creative, a major Southwark-based project devised and run by the dynamic creative arts charity Create.

The PFFS part of the project involved 16 participants creating two textile artworks inspired by a visit to More London, at Riverside SE1 and this year’s summer holiday outing to Paradise Wildlife Park.

The textile pieces take the form of a series of windows to be sewn on to the curtains that line the wall of the meeting room, giving a sense of looking out of windows into vibrant landscapes.

The women made sketches of the shapes, textures and patterns they found in the landscape, and then created the artwork under the guidance of Create’s professional visual artist.

Create’s workshops have encouraged members of PFFS to express themselves, gain confidence and trust and build relationships.  Further, the project has helped them to share experiences and understanding, and helped develop teamwork and communication skills.

Create is a dynamic charity (registered charity No 1099733) that uses the creative arts to help transform the lives of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable people in our society.  Founded by Nicky Goulder and Samantha Lodge in July 2003, the charity's aim is to give people of all ages access to the therapeutic, educational and social benefits of the creative arts.  Its cornerstones are access, innovation, excellence and passion.
