Recruitment and training
We are no longer taking applications for the October training course. However, you can apply online for our next round of recruitment in February 2011.
Article about our service
One of our court volunteers, Charles Hanson, has published an article about Prisoners' Families and Friends Service in the Inside Time Newspaper, called The Forgotten Victims.
Supervision and training - for existing volunteers
All court volunteers are expected to attend ongoing supervision sessions.
We have lined up 3 supervision dates for September. It is compulsory for all existing Court Volunteers to attend one of these sessions. Please bring any completed monitoring forms or case studies with you.
The dates are:
- Thursday 9 September 2010 11am - 3pm
- Friday 17 September 2010 11am - 3pm
- Wednesday 29 September 2010 6pm - 9pm.
In addition, we have a training evening planned for Wednesday 15 September from 6pm to 8.30pm when we shall learn more about the Parole Board and the difficult decisions it has to make from the head of their Quality Unit, Kay Fielding. This evening promises to be extremely informative, so please come armed with questions about IPP sentences etc.
We will be offering refreshments on all of these dates, so we do need to know in advance who is coming.
Recent training evenings for volunteers:
- A talk about the work of the Probation Service, by Peter Mavunga, Probation Officer at Inner London Crown Court.
- A talk by Judge Dan Worlsley, who sits at Blackfriars Crown Court
- Nikki Renston of the Prisoners' Advice Service spoke about the work of Prisoners' Advice Service.
